Introduction
Hello, this is Kimama / Easygoing.
In this post, I will introduce Manga Editor DESU!, the ultimate illustration layout tool.
What is Manga Editor DESU!?
Manga Editor DESU! is an open-source manga creation app developed by new-sankaku.
Manga Editor DESU! is completely free and is particularly well-suited for handling AI-generated illustrations.
Features of Manga Editor DESU!
- Free to use
- Intuitive and easy to use
- The app itself can be downloaded
Manga Editor DESU! is entirely free and offers extensive preset layouts, allowing users to simply drag & drop images to arrange them easily.

Since it saves work locally, and the app itself is open-source, once downloaded, you can use it indefinitely without worry!
Let’s Get Started!
To start using Manga Editor DESU!, visit the following page:

Upon first use, select your preferred language from the menu at the top center.

On the right side, there are external tool integrations (Stable Diffusion webUI, ComfyUI), but since we will be uploading illustrations, uncheck the "C" checkbox at the top center to hide these options.

On the left panel, choose between a vertical or horizontal layout.
Various frame presets are available for each layout type, so select the one you prefer.

The work area will display frames where you can drag & drop images.

Images are automatically fitted to the frames, but you can adjust the position and size to match your desired layout.
And with that, the first page of your illustration is complete!
Creating Additional Pages

To create additional pages, simply select another preset from the left panel. This will display a new page while previous pages move to the list at the bottom left.
Drag & drop new images to continue working on additional pages in the same way.
Converting Illustrations to Black & White
Manga Editor DESU! allows easy conversion of illustrations to black and white.
To do this, select an illustration and choose "Effects" from the left panel.

There are four types of black-and-white tones available, as well as light color presets.
With a single click, you can apply a unified tone across your entire work, ensuring consistency.
Adding Speech Bubbles
Since Manga Editor DESU! is a manga creation app, it provides an easy way to add speech bubbles.
Opening the speech bubble panel on the left reveals numerous presets—choose one that fits your needs.

Text font customization is done through the text panel.

In addition to preset fonts, you can use web fonts or local fonts, meaning if you own a paid font, you can use that too!
Exporting Illustrations
Once your illustration is complete, go to the top left "File" menu and select Download Image to export it as a PNG file.

Additionally, selecting Save Project from the same menu allows you to save all work-in-progress data, including uploaded images.

Now, let's compare Manga Editor DESU! with other manga creation applications.

Anifusion
Anifusion is an online manga creation app that I previously introduced.
Anifusion is easy to use and can automatically generate both storylines and illustrations.
It is optimized for manga creation, offering character consistency and varied backgrounds, making it incredibly fast for production.

However, Anifusion has limited preset speech bubbles and tones, making it slightly difficult to create highly original works.
Another major advantage is that Anifusion allows commercial use of the Flux.1[dev] model under its unique licensing. However, users are restricted to models registered within Anifusion, meaning not all custom models are available.
Manga Editor DESU!
Manga Editor DESU! is more suited for users who are familiar with image generation and offers greater creative freedom.
It provides a wide variety of panel layouts and speech bubbles, as well as blend modes and diverse effects to help create unique works.

Unlike Anifusion, Manga Editor DESU! does not allow commercial use of the Flux.1[dev] model, but it supports all publicly available models for local image generation.
Additionally, since the app itself can be downloaded, users can save their work locally, making it an excellent choice for serious creators.
Krita AI Diffusion
Krita is an open-source drawing app with features comparable to Adobe Photoshop.
Krita AI Diffusion is an extension that integrates Krita with ComfyUI, enabling image generation and inpainting (partial corrections) within Krita.
Unlike manga-specific applications, Krita AI Diffusion does not support drag-and-drop image placement, but it offers sketch-to-image generation and real-time AI-powered drawing adjustments, leveraging ComfyUI’s advanced capabilities.
Although Krita AI Diffusion runs entirely locally, installation is challenging, requiring knowledge of both Krita and ComfyUI.

Conclusion: Try Manga Editor DESU!
- Manga Editor DESU! is simple and easy to use
- It can be used for more than just manga
- Perfect for backing up your work
Although Manga Editor DESU! is primarily a manga creation tool, it also serves as a convenient illustration layout tool.
Flux.1 AI models often struggle with limited composition variety, but by experimenting with image placement in Manga Editor DESU!, it’s possible to create more dynamic expressions.

The creative potential of Manga Editor DESU! is limitless, and it's truly amazing that such an advanced app was developed in Japan by an independent creator!
Why not freely arrange your AI-generated illustrations with Manga Editor DESU! and explore new creative possibilities?
Thank you for reading!
Tried Making a Video!
For the first time, I created a video tutorial.
I didn't use AI-generated videos—just screen recordings of my computer, which I edited slightly, but I had a great time making it.
I used DaVinci Resolve Studio 19, which I had previously purchased, but the free version of DaVinci Resolve 19 includes most of the essential features.
I plan to continue making videos to make my content even more accessible!
Featured Creator
The background music for my video was provided by Shiki.
Shiki previously shared beautiful illustrations generated with Leonardo AI, but recently they have been exploring DALL·E 3 for image generation and Udio for AI-generated music.
Shiki’s YouTube channel, "AiPeacefulMoment," features relaxing healing music, perfect as background music for working.
I highly recommend checking it out!
